Flying Leap Cairns, Australia

Flying Leap CairnsWoah man. What the hell is it?
Is it a hang glider?
Is it a flying fox?

Correct-a-mundo. It's both. This is the Flying Leap.

Flying Leap is where you stand on a cliff face 60 metres high strapped to a huge set of wings that dangle on a tight wire. Throwing yourself off the cliff is the beginning of a thrilling ride that combines the rush of a flying fox with the control of a hang glider. You whiz 300 metres through the air like a bird at great speed and land safely on the ground at the end of the tight wire.

During the flight, riders experience views of the Cairns Inlet, Cairns International Airport, Green Island and the Coral Sea.

The Flying Leap is a very safe activity – you need not worry about steering the hang glider or concern yourself with landing techniques. The wire takes care of everything for you.

The speeds reached during a leap depend on your body weight and the strength and direction of wind.
Children are permitted to take a Flying Leap, but usually this is best done as a tandem jump with a parent.

Flying Leap is located opposite the Cairns International Airport. It can be seen from the Bruce Highway when heading north.

Flying Leap is open every day of the week from 9.30 AM to 4.00 AM, excluding Christmas Day and New Years Day.
The leap does not operate in heavy rain, however the operators say windy days are excellent for flying leaps.
